Thaipusam In Penang 2009

Thaipusam is a Hindu festival which falls in the full moon month(Thai) of Indian calender.The festival commemorates both the birthday of Lord Murugan,the youngest son of Shiva and Parvati and the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a vel (spear) so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman. There were cheriot procession one day before thaipusam...



Many people turn up to see Lord Murugan to say thank you and their apprecietion..Besides that,the Indian and the Chinese also breaks coconut for Lord Murugan..

On Thaipusam day,as early as 1 am many people start to walk up to the Hilltop Temple,Penang..Where many of them is seen to carry milkpot for Lord Murugan...

While walking to the Hilltop Temple there were many panthal which is nicely decorated... Below is the picture...
